Mary Webster--Portrait Frames Stock #2 GOLD LEAF FRAME

Circa 1850

  • Handsome two-part frame from the Mid-19th Century. It consists of two moldings: a three-inch wide outside molding with a soft ogee profile and a raised outer edge; and an inner molding, or liner, that steps in toward the sight edge. Both moldings are gold leaf over yellow bole. The outside edges are shaped and painted in early dull mustard-colored paint.

    Because of the unique construction of this frame its rabbet size is adjustable. Its slightly elongated dimensions also make it suitable to be used as a mirror frame.

  • Total molding width 5"; without the liner 3"
  • Depth at outside edge 2 1/2"
  • Sight size 32 1/2"H x 22 1/4"W; without the liner 36 1/2"H x 26 1/4"W
  • Condition: very good with age-appropriate wear and some rubthrough to the yellow bole, especially along the bottom ogee. A 1/2 by 3/4 inch abrasion along one of the long sticks is shown in the detail photo.
