Mary Webster--Portrait Frames Stock 42 GILDED PORTRAIT FRAME
Circa 1860

  • Outstanding portrait frame in gold leaf over gray bole. Most of the frames that I see in this style are silver gilt, which makes the original surface of this frame especially good. The bolection style molding rises by steps to a convex element in the center of the molding and then falls again. The corners are mitered. The outside edges have traces of original dull ochre paint.

  • Rabbet size 30 1/2"H x 25 1/2"W" plus allowance
  • Sight size 29 1/2"H x 24 1/2"W
  • Molding width 4"
  • Depth at outside edge 1 1/4"
  • Overall size 37"H x 32"W
  • Condition: very good overall condition with wear appropriate to the age of the frame. There is a mend in the gesso on the lower left outside corner and small losses in the other outside corners, also a little wear to the highest part of the molding.
