Mary Webster--Federal Stock #9
PAIR OF SULLY STYLE FRAMES WITH ORNAMENTAL MATS
Circa 1840

  • Rare pair of Sully Style frames; gold leaf over gray bole; mitered corners; outside edges painted in a matte mustard color. Gilt ornamental oval mats in compo. Early glass and wooden backing board.
  • Rabbet size 13"H x 11"W
  • Overall size 15"H x 13"W
  • Sight size 10 1/2"H x 8 1/2"W oval
  • Molding width 1 1/2"
  • Height at outside edge 1 1/2" including build-out
  • Condition: Good, with minor gesso losses in the corners. The rabbets have been extended to a depth of 3/4". It appears that this was done early in the lives of the frames. There is some loss to the gilt as seen in photos, most conspicuously along the bottom rail, perhaps the work of an overzealous duster.
